The Bonds of the Soviet People Essay -- Stalin, history of the USSR

Elena Gorokhova explains in her memoir that â€Å"The rules are simple: they lie to us, we know they're lying, they know we know they're lying, but they keep lying to us, and we keep pretending to believe them.† The novel, A Mountain of Crumbs, depicts the hopelessness, opression and deception of life behind the Iron Curtain during the 70s and 80s. Many rights of the people within the Soviet Union were violated and unacknowledged. In ages past, there were no human rights but the idea evolved after a while. It was at the end of World War II that the United Nations created the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, with the purpose of saving future generations from devastating internal conflicts. Human rights are the rights one has simply because one is a human being. There is no distinction between who can exercise and obtain their rights. Some of these obvious rights include that all humans are born free with the promise of life, liberty and security of person. The above right s should be protected and respected by everyone. However, the rights of the communist nations in the USSR were not kept safe. Specifically, the rights to emigrate and move freely as pleased, the freedom of consciousness, thought and religion and the ability to express oneself as they wish. Essentially, people’s rights were being restricted within the Iron Curtain, many of them uncovering their voices and pleeing for change at once, but instead they encountered armed forces prepared to erase anyone in defense of the status quo. Even though there were not many alternations in the socialist regime of the Soviet Union, there were plenty after World War II. The Big Three, U.S President Franklin D. Simple Things in Life

Simple things in life Have you smiled or said hi to someone today? If not you need to look back and wonder why not. Doing something simple as that makes someone’s day, or maybe even making then smile for a second, anything will mean something. There are many kinds of kind things you can do for someone, you have large actions that you can do for someone or there are smaller actions. No matter what size and kind action can go a long way. The smaller actions are ones that usually mean the most.When it comes to me when I am feeling down, I don’t like to just complain, I feel that I will get on someone’s nerves. Therefore, if I ever see anyone not being there selves, I simply smile. To let them know I am here, maybe even say something to them to let them know I'm here and I care. Lets say that someone simply was walking by and said something nice with a smile it would make my day. Then I would have a smile on my face therefore I would smile at someone else. Hopefully this will cause a chain reaction and go a long way to make everyone a little less tense.It really is mind blowing that you can make a difference in someone’s day just listening or letting them know you are there. Have you ever been in the grocery store and the person in front of you says,† hey is it okay if I buy your items for you? † Well, if not it does not happen a lot. When it does it will make a difference in someone’s life. I say this because it has happened to me, it was like a couple of years ago, but to this day I remember this wonderful thing.Many people now days cant do these kinds of things, it’s understandable we are going times with this economy. This economy is making people even more stressed and down, this is why we need to remember to do good things. There are many different actions that you can take to make a change. There are those who can simply take a day off and go to a hospital. Then there are those who have the chances to ado pt a kid and change a life. Their not really hard thing to do but it means a lot.In the end when you see them smile, you see how much they really appreciate and it’s the best feeling ever. Over all you have a choice to make a difference in someone’s life, or just someone’s day. Rather it is large or small it does not matter in the size, you being kind and caring is all, just trying to make the world a happier place is wonderful. As I said before,† kind actions go a long way,† which can help make someone who had a hard day into a good day. Therefore the next time you see someone not smiling or down, make their day, smile or say hey.

Physics of an Acoustic Guitar I have been watching my husband play the guitar in a band for five years and he has made it look so easy to make such beautiful music. Most guitar players have progressed with the technology of electric guitars, but when my husband picks up an acoustic guitar and starts to play a song for just me, I hear his love for me in the sounds that he produces. Imagine my surprise when a physics class conveyed to me that there was much more to his playing than I had imagined. The sound that a guitar makes is easily recognizable to many people because the physics of the acoustic guitar is mostly universal. A full wavelength has two nodes and two antinodes. On a fixed string, nodes are created at both ends, so the fundamental, or longest, wavelength that could be produced, would be twice the length of the guitar string. Harmonics are determined by â€Å"whole number multiples of the fundamental wavelength.†3 They can vary in speed and have any number of wavelengths that can be generated with nodes at both ends. For example, the first harmonic would be a full wavelength and have two nodes and two antinodes. Each additional harmonic would add an additional half of a wavelength to the string. The relationship between the wavelength and the speed of the wave creates different frequencies from the guitar. The frequency is the number of wavelengths that occur per second. The equation is set up as the frequency equals the speed of the waves divided by the wavelength, or f = u  § l . Frequency is measured in Hertz (Hz) and humans can generally hear between 20Hz and 20,000Hz, depending on the individual.
